Media, Technology and Society
“Media, Technology and Society” is the title of the new master programme at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Darmstadt). But the three terms also mark three topics which need a close look every day. We are convinced: the discussion and research of the interplay of these three fields is important to understand what is happening and to develop ideas for the future.
So, discussions on these questions take place in many courses in the programme. One of these courses is the MTS-lab. There, students develop own projects. Some of them are empirical, others are conceptional. At the moment, the students are working on their proposals. Additionally, the lab includes formats for current discussions in the public sphere and for a deeper dive into topics. Students prepare learning nuggets on them, or they invite experts for short keynotes or discussions. They will publish the essence of these deep dives here in the blog. Additionally, students or lecturers publish blog posts on topics being discussed in other courses.
Due to the Covid-19-pandemia the MTS programme started digital only. The students of the programme didn’t have the opportunity to meet in person yet but video conferencing tools and tools for live collaboration are very helpful – not only for the team work but also to develop a common spirit. Most of the first students in the programme are alumni of the Bachelor programmes Online Journalism and Online Communications. Unfortunately, several students – especially international ones – were not able to start the semester now because of the crisis. They plan to join the M.Sc. programme next semester.
